Bayof Island Welcome to the traditional charm of the thoroughly modern Luxury Russell Cottages. Located in the Bay of Islands, Russell (Kororareka) was the first capital of New Zealand. Only 3 hours drive from Auckland, Russell has always been a focal point in the bay. Originally an old whalers retreat and port, the village is steeped in history. From streets lined with quaint weather board cottages, the old iron clad general store, the historic Catholic mission and the favorite big game fishing ground of the famous American author, Zane Grey. Russell is part of living history, set against a background of the irradiant blue water of the bay.
Russell Cottages echo the charm and history that is, Russell. Adjacent to the historic school site, on Chapel Street in the heart of the village, the cottages are nestled in established trees, and beside a running brook.
